DEMO’S COMPLETE DOUBLE FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING

West Oxford Democrats completed the double for the second year in succession as they beat Crown House ‘A’ 8-4 in the Team Knockout Final.

Crown House won the opening frame of the match, but their lead was short lived as Connor Jones  broke & dished Jamie Saczak to level the scores. Wins for Demo’s Marc Reynolds and Tony Jackman and Crown House’s Shaun Taylor saw Demo’s win the opening session 3-2.

Saczak gained revenge on Jones to level the scores once again, but wins from Jackman, Reynolds, Jez Thompson & Robbie Gratton saw Demo’s take a decisive 7-3 lead into the final session.

Once again Crown House won the opening frame of the session through Taylor, but any chance of a fight back was squashed as jones beat Ash Penny-Larter to secure the victory.

FOLLY BRIDGE SECURE THEIR OWN DOUBLE

Oxfords Folly Bridge completed their own double by adding the Team Knockout Plate to the Section Three League title won two weeks earlier
Their 8-5 win over Abingdon Royal British Legion ‘A’ was a close affair. Arron Taylor and Captain Charlie Guinan gave Folly Bridge and early 2-0 lead before Legion Captain Andy Blythe (pictured left) reduced the deficit. The remain two frames of the first session were shared giving Folly Bridge a 3-2 lead. Wins from Reece Steptoe and Phillip Munns gave the Legion a 4-3 lead before Folly Bridge hit back through Gurnism Lal, Guinan and Taylor to end the second session with a 6-4 lead.
Taylor capped a fine individual performance, winning his third frame of the final leaving his side only one frame from victory. Mark Holmes reduced the deficit for the Legion by beating Dan English, but it was to no avail as Lal won the next frame to seal victory for Folly Bridge.

NEW NAME ON OPEN TROPHY
This season’s Open Singles Trophy will have a new name engraved upon it as Rhys Freemire (Crown House A) and Jamie Scazak (Crown House B) made it through the field of 47 to the 2012 Final which will be contested at Peachcroft Social Club on 13th May.

Wins over Steve Jordan (3-1), Shaun Talbot (3-0) and two time winner Pete Maconochie (3-2) saw Freemire reach the Semi-Final and a match against Andrew Gee. Gee, who apart from a open round scare, hadn’t dropped a frame on his way to the semi’s and had earlier knocked out defending champion, Peter DeBanks. Unfortunately his form suddenly let him down as Freemire won a one side encounter 4-0.

Saczak however, was made to work a little harder to make his appearance in the final as he had three deciding frame matches during his run. Wins against Paul Carter (3-2) and Paul Garwood (3-1) saw him through the opening rounds. Ash Street pushed him all the way before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat. An easy 3-0 over Andy Moss saw him up against an in form Tom Gaughan. Saczak managed to win a highly contested Semi-Final, eventually winning 4-3.

In the Singles Plate, Adam Luck (Peachcroft) beat Barry Viner (Cross Keys) 4-0

The 2012 Ladies Singles Final will be between the defending champion Jaz Venning (Oracle) and Lorraine Owen (Marlboro). A disappointing turn out saw only 8 Ladies attend. These were split into 2 groups of 4 playing in a round robin format. The Semi-Finals were both close affairs with Owen edging out Hazel Dabrowski 3-2 and Venning having to fight back from 2-0 down to defeat Lucy Walker 3-2.
